They course through my veins, giving life to my every passion and pursuit.
Hi. I’m Jess
My love affair with music began at the tender age of three when I first caressed the strings of a violin. The piano and drums followed soon after, expanding my musical horizons. But it was at 13 years old that I found my true calling for percussion. From the reverberating timpani to the intricate melodies of the tuned percussion, I was hooked.
The Sheffield Music Academy, Sheffield Music Hub and City of Sheffield Youth Orchestra became my playgrounds, allowing me to dive into an ever-expanding repertoire. Each new piece – from the epic sweep of Star Wars to the swashbuckling adventures of Pirates of the Caribbean – fed my unquenchable thirst for musical exploration.
A Lifelong Love Affair
After exploring the depths of music from a young age, I took my passion to the University of Liverpool, graduating with a BA(Hons) in Music and Hispanic Studies. My love for the rich cultures of the Spanish-speaking world blended seamlessly with my devotion to music, creating a beautiful symphony of appreciation for the varied culture and diversity of today’s world.
But, not content to rest on my laurels, I’m now pursuing a Masters in Music Performance at my beloved alma mater. The classics, film scores, global traditions – I’ve studied them all, each genre enriching my perspective and stoking the fires of my obsession.
A Performer’s Exhilaration
But music is not just an academic pursuit for me – it’s a full-body experience, a rush of adrenaline that sets my soul ablaze. From pit bands for productions like The Addams Family and Sister Act to principal percussion roles in masterworks like Kurt Weill’s The Seven Deadly Sins and Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite, I live for the thrill of live performance.
Whether I’m providing the driving backbeat for a musical or painting the lush tapestries of an orchestral masterpiece, every show is a night to get lost in the music, to let the rhythms possess me completely.
